Monday and it was time to go home, we’d not really had long enough in Wales, I mean we were staying just outside the Snowdonia National Park and yet hadn’t had time to visit it at all, nor had we been to Llandudno and The Great Orme, or Caernarvon… we’re just going to have to go back again !
Monday morning was horrible and wet, the rain was pouring down from 7am and the caravan park slowly drowning as the puddles joined together to form large pools of water. Our plan was not to go back the quick dual carriageway route across North Wales, but to drive along the coast road because a) neither of us had ever been to the places on that road, and b) there was a cache in a place I particularly wanted to visit – as my Surname is Bettis I particularly wanted to visit Bettisfield, and fortunately by the time we got there the weather had improved a bit. Caches No’s 3282 to 3288 – A Welsh Wales Holiday, Day 3
Next day we decided that as we were in Wales we would go for a ride on one of the Great Little Trains, so after a check on ditances, timings and prices decided that it was best to drive to Blaneau Ffestiniog and ride from there on the Ffestiniog Railway down to Porthmadog… Turned out to cost a lot more than it needed to as I could have got 10% off if I had taken the tag I got in 2011 (I assumed that the tags were different each year and only the current year one was valid) and then we parked in the station car park, I bought a parking ticket, put it on the car dash like you are supposed to do, then Angel78 opened her door and a gust of wind blew the ticket out of the car, I chased after it across the car park, but then it blew up into the air and over the buildings and God knows where from there, so it was back to the machine and buy another ticket… £4.20 could have been saved on Rail Fares and £2.50 extra was spent on car parking ! Caches No’s 3274 to 3281 – A Welsh Wales Holiday, Day 2
The next morning we were awoken at 6:55am by what can only be termed as “Rolling Thunder” we were aware that just over Wales the warm air from the Continent was going to come up against cold air from the Atlantic and cause thunderstorms, well it did, right above our caravan, a thunderstorm that was continuous boom-boom-boom of thunder for about 12 minutes, when one clap stopped the next started… and there was some large sized hail and a lot of rain thrown in as well – quite noisy on a tin tent roof !
So we were up early ! Our plan was to go to Conway Castle that morning, we did, but thanks to another rainstorm blowing in we got a bit wet… mainly because we went to a cafe for breakfast in the dry leaving waterproofs in the car… coming out of the cafe it was pouring down so we got wet heading back to the car. After the castle we visited the Elizabethan House (more culture) and by the time we came out it was dry again Continue reading
Caches No’s 3265 to 3273 – A Welsh Wales Holiday In The Sun, Day 1
Another month, another weekend away with Angel78. This time we were heading for North Wales on a cheap holiday booked through The Sun. they say these are £10 holidays, but you have to pay for at least 4 places and then theres a Service Charge to pay and if you want their linen it’s another charge and if you want their entertainment in the Clubhouse then it’s more money on top, so anyway we had no entertainment and took our own bedding so it was about £80 for the weekend – not too bad, but not a £10 holiday ! Still for Geocaching it’s an ideal way to get a reasonably cheapway to visit a different area… Continue reading
Caches No’s 3259 to 3264 – The Fifth Month
June 1st was the next date where I had a blank space on my calendar grid, so when a few new caches appeared the night before over Ilkley way I thought they would be perfect caches to go and find to fill the grid. I didn’t go out until about 4:30pm so I wasn’t expecting to get First To Finds as it was a nice sunny Sunday and there were enough new caches to attract people who wouldn’t necessarily bother with one odd cache, but I was first to go looking so got another handful of FTF’s
The next blank date I have is in the middle of July, as I did a 33 day streak from early June last year – just got to remember not to forget Wednesday July 9th ! Continue reading
Caches No’s 3257 & 3258 – Two More Church Micros
The Church Micro series also has a ranking award system for finding the caches, for finding between 10 and 24 you are ranked as a Reader, From 25 to 49 you are ranked as a Deacon, from 50 to 99 you are ranked as a Curate, and that is where I am now with 64 Church Micro finds… I do have a desire to get to be a Vicar 100 – 249 finds, getting any higher will be pretty difficult as I would need to find every Church Micro within 50 miles of home to get to 250, and that is not really a practical proposition.
So I will just have to get all the local ones I can and pick up others when I am elsewhere in the country, so two in Keighley were high on my list for finding. Continue reading
