At the events in Harrogate and Ripon I had discussed with a few people the possibility of bringing the 10th Anniversary UK Mega to Yorkshire, where the first Mega was held. This led to starting a facebook group to see if there was enough general interest from the Yorkshire caching community, which there was, which then led to an ‘interest meeting’ to sort out a preliminary committee and brainstorm ideas for where to have it and what we would like to see at it. Once again time for my annual camping trip to Norfolk (see caches 52-59, 620-630, 1299-1303, 1912-1941, 2708-2747 & 3335-3375 for previous years) This year to avoid the tedium of traditional drive-by caches I planned my route to take in the remaining few YOSM’s that were in between home and Kings Lynn (actually there are 2 more but they are a 2 mile walk each way from the road – so I may go for them next time I am driving down which will be for my annual November trip) Continue reading
Another week, another event. This time the 12th annual World Wide Flash mob. I’ve only been to one of these before, in 2013. Last year I was on Holiday in Wales with Angel78 and although there was a Flash Mob event nearby it was not at a time suitable for us so we didn’t go. This year however Richlay had organised a flash mob event on a Saturday Teatime in Roundhay Park so it was not a difficult thing to attend. Continue reading
There is a Virtual Cache in Ripon, that is one of those caches that I have meant to get round to for ages, well years in fact. But it is a very different type of cache to even other virtuals in that it involves doing the cache at a specific time of day – 9:00pm and it inolves interaction with a human.
Ripon though is just too far away to make an evening visit just for the cache, so when Eee bi Gum put forward the idea of an event that afforded us chance to get the virtual as well it was an obvious “two birds with one stone” reason to have a trip to there one Friday night. Continue reading
One of the reasons I had tried so many times to solve the Otley Environs puzzle (cache #3672) was that it was hidden on 11th November – a ‘hidden on’ date I did not have filled in my calendar. Finding it left just two dates unfilled – the 18th and 29th February. So I fired up Project GC and used the tool there to show me all the caches in Yorkshire that were hidden on those dates so I could plan a Bank Holiday caching expedition to take in suitable caches to fill the grid.
