I have fallen right out of the habit of going out Geocaching by myself… almost all the caches I have done for months have been associated with an ‘Event’ either found on the way to, the way back or during the event itself… May 2016 was the last time I went out by myself just to find a few caches.
The announcement that we were losing GC45CC – YOSM further put a dampener on my interest in Geocaching in that if I can’t go finding trigpoints when I am driving to events part of the excitement of going to the big far away events at all has gone.April’s caches were mainly local events
3rd April 2017 – Easter Evening Event – GC72AP8 – cache #4216
Another of Goldfish58’s events at The Squinting Cat, thanks to Carina for another great event, many of the usual suspects in attendance and the usual good time had by all
9th April 2017 – Stainburn Forest Erratic – The Hunter’s Stones – GC6HFAW – cache #4217
Although the YOSM cache had received it’s death sentence the Owner was still setting it in new locations and one of the last was released very close to home, so I went to get it, but while I was there it would have been rude not to walk a little further to the Hunter Stones Earthcache…
9th April 2017 – Ye Ole Survey Monuments – GC45CC – cache #4218
YSM736 Lindley Moor
This location is only 3 miles from where I live so on a nice sunny Sunday afternoon I pottered off to visit it. Rather surprising that wondering through the middle of nowhere I heard strange Scottish accents and came across Gail and Chris (BURT0NS and Mrs Monkeydestructor) who were 200 miles from home. I had last met them a fortnight previously on Hadrians Wall at the YOSM 15th Anniversary celebrations and then the day before that at Gail’s YOSM Anniversary event North of Glasgow… Proving that I am not the only person who goes on long trips just to visit YOSM’s!
13th April 2017 – No Red Stag – But A Fox & Hounds – GC71GBQ – cache #4219
An event during a promotion by Groundspeak where you got a ‘souvenir’ for attending an event… nothing more than a virtual gold star for your virtual wallchart
I was surprised at how far some attendees had travelled to go to a midweek event… but it was nice to see everyone who did get there (and good of Richlay to put on an event nearer to me than Thirsk !)
23rd April 2017 – Relax in Ripon. – GC73AG3 – cache #4220
This was an event to follow a CITO – I avoid CITOs so I found a reason why I couldn’t make it, but got to the pub afterwards !
(actually it was a valid reason, I had to take my Mother out in the morning so couldn’t get to Ripon in time)
26th April 2017 – Don’t shoot the messenger – GC71W74 – cache #4221
An event on my birthday, not to do with my birthday at all, the date was coincidental. This was an event in Ripon to see the Hornblower Ceremony, which this time was done by a new younger Wakeman, not Rick but Hornblower Wayne… who apparently has found a geocache or two in his life and is known to Goldfish58
