The East Yorks leg of our Meet the Mega Committee tour was planned for Beverley – it was to be a tea-time meeting, so that left me the rest of the day available to go and find a few other caches – I decided that as I was on 96 YOSM finds and there were 4-5 readily available on a reasonable route to the East Coast and then on to Beverley it seemed a reasonable plan to go and get to my 100th YOSM find.
Of course it was a rather long and convoluted journey that took me about twice the mileage as if I had gone directly to Beverley, but nothing ventured, nothing gained as they say.
16th April 2016 – Ye Olde Survey Monuments GC45CC – cache #4008
This time logging YSM575 Sheepclose Farm
Heading over to East Yorkshire for the day so I took the opportunity to grab a few YOSM’s on the way
This was my first of 5 found on the day and an easy to get to roadside pillar
16th April 2016 – Ye Olde Survey Monuments GC45CC – cache #4009
This time logging YSM079 – Canada
This pillar is about 1/3 mile from the road in a strip of woodland. There doesn’t appear to be a Public Footpath to it but there are trails up each side of the wood which are obviously walked quite often so I used them to approach the pillar
16th April 2016 – Ye Olde Survey Monuments GC45CC – cache #4010
This time logging YSM184 Buckton Cliffs
A YOSM at the seaside – the pillar is pretty much on the edge of the cliff and as the trig point is at 135mtrs elevation that’s how far you would fall to the waves below if you took a wrong step !
2 mile walk from the village of Speeton, probably a very pleasant walk on a nice day but as I had a constant howling wind along with snow, hail and driving rain for the walk in the times between inclemencies, when the sun was out I still had to keep my hood up to protect from the freezing wind.
16th April 2016 – Ye Olde Survey Monuments GC45CC – cache #4011
This time logging YSM524 Skirlington
My 100th YOSM !
Thanks to outforthehunt for the best cache in the UK
After this I did go into Hull to go to YSM466 – East Mount, but unfortunately this is on the municipal golf course, which was closed because of flooding and so the pillar was unavailable behind a large fence… one to go back to after a period of better weather !
16th April 2016 – Meet the Yorkshire 2018 Committee – East Yorks. GC6C8Y7 – cache #4012
Excellent event, loads of people turned up. Thanks to the organisers and to everyone for attending
16th April 2016 – Ye Olde Survey Monuments GC45CC – cache #4013
This time logging YSM636 – Newcoat Fields
Driving home I planned to make a little detour to this YOSM… Unfortunately for me it wasn’t as close to the roadside as it appears to be on the map… a large hedge in the way !
So in a rural location with no moon it was pretty black and I found the gate into the field easy enough but had no idea what the conditions were like underfoot (wet and muddy). My GPS doesn’t really give off enough light to act as a torch !
Got to it in the end though without tripping up or slipping over
