The Ordnance Survey list has 4 Benchmarks in grid SE1746, one is a Bolt, the others are all Cut Marks.
1 – PA BOLT – PA BOLT S FACE BUTT 3M SW ANG ST MARYS CH
FOUND IN GOOD CONDITION
The Bolt is on the South face of the Buttress 3mtrs from the South West corner of St Mary’s Church
The Bolt is nice and clear, but then it’s on a bit of the church that nobody would really touch as to go round the outside of the church you would be outside the butresses
2 – CUT MARK – BLDG 1.6M W ANG NW FACE
NOT FOUND
The Cut Mark is on the North West face of the building 1.6mtrs from the West corner
The West face of the building is on the back side of the building to what you can see in the photo here
But you can’t get to the building as on the gatepost of the track that leads down to it there is a sign that says
3 – CUT MARK – WALL 9.6M S ENT WESTON HALL E SIDE RDTHE GHYLL N ANG S SIDE WEST LANE
FOUND IN POOR CONDITION
The Cut Mark is 9.6mtrs South of the entrance to Weston Hall on the East side of the road
The photo was taken out of the car window and shows that the Cut Mark is easy to see, but the left line is indistinct
4 – CUT MARK – ALL SAINTS CH 10.7M SE ANG S FACE
FOUND IN GOOD CONDITION
The Cut Mark is on the South face of All Saints Church, 10.7mtrs from the South East corner
The descriptions on these benchmarks are sometimes a bit strange, I mean rather than saying it’s 10.7mtrs from the corner they could surely just say it’s on the doorpost.
