So we all gathered in front of the Cathedral, just a few yards from where many of us had gathered 5 days previous for the Pointy Pirates flash mob, this time no pirates, the only person in fancy dress was the Town Crier who had come to Welcome the Mega to Lincoln.

I was late getting to the CITO, something to do with a horrendous traffic jam caused by roadworks in the city… ages spent getting nowhere.
But I got to the event in the end, not that there was any litter left for me to collect, so I went to find the caches instead

Of course the caches were about as far away from the meeting point as it was possible to get and still be on the racecourse

This cache was in the overgrown rubble of one of the old Race Course buildings… A cache that was proving troublesome… there were many DNF’s then I was one of half dozen cachers determined to locate the cache, we turned over every single stone… and in the end we were successful

And so to the MEGA day itself.. to tell the truth, although this was the 9th UK Mega I had attended I have always found the Mega day to be a fairly boring day, even our 2018 Mega day just wasn’t exciting… I looked around the traders stalls, but I didn’t want to buy anything other than a new Garmin Montana 750 GPS which I had discussed with the GPS Training Company man at Piratemania the week before, so that was a quick (if horrendously expensive) transaction. and then, well that was really the Mega event done

And the best part of the event were these puzzle lab caches, made by Eric – TowerClockMan’ who I had spent a long time taking to at Piratemania, and who was not socially distant on Mega Day as he was one of the many who had tested positive for Covid during the week. Eric makes clever caches, and these were 10 birdhouse clever caches he had made.
I did these labs with Kerry, Matt, Sam, Zoe etc, after we had done a couple we knew what format the answers would be, words form the song Lyrics, so it was then a case of trying to guess what the answer would be while standing in line waiting to do the puzzle
