The first we heard about the Bonn Mega was at our own event in August 2018… Two German gents attended conspicuous by their full beards and told us they were having a Mega in Bonn on February 29th 2020.We saw them again in Hamburg and Aberdeen and GeoCoinFest (and I’ve no doubt that they were at other European events as well).
As they had come to the UK to our Mega is was only right that we reciprocated and went to theirs.

The Mega itself was busy, 3000 attended logs which means it was probably about 5000 attendees in total
For a logbook they had a Grand Piano which was different !
We also got two souvenirs for this event – the Mega souvenir and the Leap Day 2020 souvenir

One of Groundspeaks new ventures is a ‘Locationless Cache’, to find it all you need to do is have your photograph taken with either the banner or the frog… there was a big queue for the picture with the frog so we just stood at the side and took a selfie with the banner in the background.
The cache will appear at most Megas around the world I expect, but I claimed it here

After we had done the labs we headed out for some more lab caches – the Weg Der Demokratie (Way of Democracy – though I guess Trail of Democracy is a more apt translation)
In the days between the war and Reunification in 1989 Bonn was the capital of Germany so has all the history of West German Democracy.
First stop on the trail is the building where the original West German Parliament was held in 1948
